How do I create a geographic filter?

Use geographic filters to locate requests within a geographic boundary. Users can add filters by drawing a boundary on the map with your cursor or uploading KMZ files for each boundary. Examples of filters include council districts, neighborhoods, HOAs, and police beats.

Users can upload or draw boundaries by going to Reports in PublicStuff Pro, and clicking on the Map pin

To draw a Boundary:

  1. Go to Map
  2. Click on the Boundaries dropdown on the upper left of the map and click Add Custom Boundary.
  3. Click to start drawing your shape, and click around the map to build the layer’s border. Draw any shape with as many points as needed to create the boundary
  4. To finish, either click on the first point to close the boundary or double-click.
  5. Give your layer a descriptive Name and click Save.

Uploading a boundary:

  1. Create a KMZ or KML file of the new border. It should contain a single multi-polygon, and should be under 500 kb. The smaller the boundary file is, the better, since geographic data is often sent to or from mobile applications over wireless networks, where small file size is a top priority to ensure a positive user experience.
  2. Upload the KMZ file to as a new filter
    1.  Click the Boundaries dropdown on the upper left of the map and click Add Custom Boundary.
    2. Click Import.

    3. Choose the file

    4. Update the layer with a descriptive Name.

    5. Click Save.

    6. Repeat for each district/zone.

These zones will be available to view on the maps page, and you can filter request data based on these zones from Add Filter > Geography and update the filter to region of choice.
